A residence permit in Spain without the right to work is issued to financially wealthy individuals who own real estate here worth at least \u20ac150,000. This amount is not specified anywhere in law, however, practice shows that having cheaper housing does not bring you any closer to obtaining a residence permit in Spain.<\/p>\n
Instead of purchasing a home, you can sign a long-term lease agreement. The application must also show an annual income of \u20ac26,000 for the main applicant plus \u20ac6,500 for each family member. This can be either passive (rent, dividends, bank interest) or active (salary) income received outside of Spain. Finally, all family members listed in the application must have health insurance.<\/p>\n
The residence permit is issued for a year and can be extended twice every two years. After five years, you can apply for permanent status, and after another five years – for citizenship. The average time for obtaining a residence permit in Spain is three to four months.<\/p>\n
