The ancient building dates back to the first century BC, when the territory of modern Malaga belonged to the ancient Roman province. In the third century BC, the province was captured by Muslims and they turned the Roman theater into a quarry, which led to its gradual abandonment. Despite many years of destruction, the theater is well preserved: you can see the round stage on which the artists performed, as well as rows of spectator seats. The twists and turns of history hid the Roman theater from view for a long time, but in 1951 it was accidentally discovered: it turned out that another building, the House of Culture, had been built on top of it. In the nineties, the House of Culture was demolished and the ancient theater was completely excavated.
