Investments in rental properties are on the rise in Bulgaria

Date: 16.05.2016

In 2016, 100,000 Bulgarians said they were receiving income from renting out their property. The main reason for the increase in such investors was the decrease in interest rates on deposits in local banks. Over the past five years, interest rates on deposits in Bulgarian banks have fallen by almost 5%. This motivates people to withdraw their funds from their accounts and buy property to earn rental income. Real estate agents say that about 20% of property transactions are made for investment purposes. There are two main groups of investors – one that buys expensive properties to rent out to wealthy tenants, and the other that buys two-bedroom apartments for €50,000-70,000.
