10 Most Beautiful Coves in Mallorca
Majorca is the most popular of all the Spanish Mediterranean islands. Its 3,640 square kilometres of surface area is a mosaic of colours, with rolling hills interspersed with beautiful beaches and the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean.
Mallorca's stunning coastline has been a major tourist attraction since the fifties. The island has much to offer. The largest of the Balearic Islands, Mallorca also has the greatest diversity of landscape and culture. The cosmopolitan capital, Palma, has many memorable attractions and is home to almost half the island's population.
Palma de Mallorca
Palma de Mallorca is locally known as “Cuitat” quite simply, “the City”. It is full of amazing stories, the Romans noted that it was a gateway to the world and was not spared from the invasion and pillage of the Arabs and Byzantines. The soil was trampled by great kings and traders laden with gold and tales of travel. Today, it is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Spain. When you get to Mallorca, either by air or sea, one of the buildings that catches your eye is the majestic La Seu Cathedral. One of the most monumental in Europe, to truly appreciate the beauty of the cathedral, it is best seen at dusk. Hot climate, cool sea breezes, lively resorts and excellent beaches make Mallorca an ideal holiday destination for the whole family. Here are 10 of our favorite Calas (coves) in Mallorca.
1. Cala d'Or

2. Cala Formentor
If you want stunning scenery, Formentor is the perfect place. The cliffs around it have many attractive paths that lead into the surrounding countryside. Indeed, the hiking and bird watching in this area is unrivalled, the wild and surf-covered cloak remains almost completely untouched. Following the mountain road as it descends, you eventually reach a white sand beach and crystal clear waters. Around it stands a majestic grove of dark green pine and oak trees. You can get there by car or public transport, it is well signposted and popular.
3. Santani
Named after the Latin, Santi Agnini, this beach has been the preferred location of pirates for continuous sieges and raids throughout history. Santanyi Beach is exquisite and is 80 m long and 130 m wide, a haven of peace, especially spectacular at sunset, making it a special place to visit. Access is easy, there is parking and other services such as restaurants, shops, a diving club and sun loungers for rent.
4. Port of Alcudia
Alcudia is located in the north of Mallorca and is one of the cities that preserves its historical and cultural heritage. In Alcudia you will find the ruins of the Roman city of Pollentia. Although we can find many beaches in the area, the beach next to the marina is one of the largest, with many activities. It has white sand and its turquoise waters are shallow, making it ideal for children.
5. Cala Sant Vicenz
We should clarify that this is not one cove but three: Cala Barques is the largest of the three. The smallest, Cala Clara and Cala Molins are distinguished by their long narrow beach. They all have the same common denominators, calm transparent waters and a unique natural environment that attracts many divers. Undoubtedly one of the most impressive coves in Mallorca, the water is crystal clear and the beach is protected from the wind.
6. Sa Calobra
This small and beautiful cove can be reached through the Serra de Tramontana, one of the most impressive routes in Spain, designed by Antonio Parietti. Sa Calobra has two coves built between the walls of the rock, one of which, S'Olla, forms a huge natural amphitheater. From Sa Calobra, on foot, you can reach another paradise, Torrent de Parei.
7. Cala Mesquida
Cala Mesquida was declared a Natural Area of Special Interest in 1991 by the Parliament of the Balearic Islands. This sandy beach, famous for its dunes, has been carefully preserved. The calm waters and rocks are an attraction for many divers. A favourite for many Majorcans living in the northern areas of the island. Road access is easy, just follow the signs from the Arta-Capdepera road.
8. Es Trenc
This beach and its 4 km of coastline have been declared a natural area protected by the Law on Natural Areas of the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands. The best beach on the southern coast, this long sandy beach is largely and surprisingly undeveloped. Its crystal clear waters and unique surroundings invite you to become part of this natural freedom. It is also a favourite beach for naturists.
9. Cala Figuera
Cala Figuera is a natural refuge loved by sailors. Its aesthetics remind us of its past and even today we can see fishermen repairing their nets. The remoteness of this magical place attracts artists from all over the world to immortalize the beach in paintings and paintings. The background noise of its calm waters gently lapping against the stone walls that surround this beautiful place conveys tranquility and relaxation.
10. Cala S'Almonia
Cala S'Almonia is our last recommendation and the perfect place to spend a day. It is located near Santanyi. S'Almonia is another of these fishing villages full of charm. Cala is accessed via a staircase that leads to an unspoilt beach with small fishermen's houses.
