Current statistics on mortgage issuance in Spain
During 2017, 849 mortgages were signed every day, for a total of 310,096 mortgage contracts. This is according to the National Statistics Institute (INE). In fact, last year 27,389 more loans were issued compared to 2016.
The latest INE data for 2018 show that the mortgage firm grew by 8.5% in May compared to April, reaching 31,166 contracts, 40.6% of which were fixed-rate. Thus, 143,963 mortgages have already been signed this year. In year-on-year dynamics, the growth of 2018 is already 7.3% higher than in 2017.
While the data continues to rise, it is still far from the 2007 high of 1,238,890 new mortgages. The mortgage market recovery is still far from the peaks reached in previous years.
Looking at the historical INE series from 2007 to 2017, January and September eclipsed the others as the months in which the most loans of this type were issued. Well, let's see what the coming September will show us!
