Bulgaria: Foreign Investment Declines

Foreign investment in Bulgarian real estate has fallen by more than half over the past year.

From January to November 2015, the amount that foreign buyers invested in purchasing real estate in the country amounted to €50.4 million. For the same period in 2014, this amount was more than double – €115.1 million.

Traditionally, the main foreign buyers of real estate in Bulgaria remained Russians – despite the crisis, they brought €25 million to the country's budget (49.6% of the total investment)

At the same time, total foreign investment in the country’s economy in 2015 amounted to €1.467 billion (3.3% of GDP), which is €251 million more than for the same period in 2014.
