Spanish notaries report 8.8% rise in property sales in Q3
Prices remained stable across Spain with an average increase of just 0.1 percent. Spain's notaries published their report for the third quarter of 2016 on Monday and reported that both sales figures and prices were up compared to the equivalent period a year earlier , although in terms of prices the upward movement was minimal at just 0.1 percent .
The number of residential property transactions increased , with notaries registering transactions in almost all 17 regions of Spain , most in Catalonia ( 19.5 % ) , Asturias ( 15.9 %), the Balearic Islands ( 14.2 % ) and Valencia ( 13.8 %), while it decreased in Murcia ( -17.6 %) and the Canary Islands (-3.4 % ) .
Overall , the number of sales registered increased by 8.8 % to 102,500 . Average prices , on the other hand , fell in 12 regions , most sharply in Extremadura (- 12.5 % ) and Asturias (- 8.3 %), while the most significant increases were recorded in La Rioja ( 8.7 %) and Xtile – La Mancha ( 6.3 %). During the quarter , the average price paid increased by 1 euro to 1,272 euros per square metre .
