Rules for importing cash into Turkey have changed
The Turkish Ministry of Customs and Trade has relaxed the customs check procedure for people entering Turkey. Now, passengers passing through customs control will no longer be subject to prosecution on suspicion of money laundering and terrorist financing.
Previously, amounts over 10,000 euros had to be officially declared. At the moment, it has been decided to cancel this decision and allow tourists and visitors to the country to bring any amount. "Profits from the export of goods and services, income from transit trade, foreign capital cash and other resources can freely flow into the country through customs gates. The value of imported baggage does not have to be indicated, and persons crossing the border are prohibited from being forced to voice it," the ministry said in a statement. Travelers can also decide for themselves what amount to tell customs officers. However, if it turns out that the indicated amount does not match the real one, the Financial Crime Investigation Organization of the Ministry of Finance of Turkey (MASAK) will impose a fine on persons crossing the border in percentage of the imported amount.
