Spanish home sales up 24% year-on-year
In May 2016, 36,425 transactions were carried out in the country of bullfighting. This is 23.6% more than the previous year and represents the highest figure since January 2013.
May 2016 was the fourth month in a row in which consistent annual growth in purchasing activity was recorded. However, this month’s figures were lower than in April, when annual sales growth reached 29%. Sales of existing homes in May increased by 26.7%, and sales of new buildings by 12% over the year.
The regions with the highest number of transactions per 100,000 inhabitants were the Balearic Islands (159) and Rioja (155). In absolute terms, the highest purchasing activity was recorded in Andalusia (7,013 transactions), followed by Catalonia (5,591), Valencia (5,082) and Madrid (4,952). The fewest transactions were carried out in Rioja (380), Navarre (390) and Cantabria (416).
In relative terms, sales increased in all regions of Spain except Navarre (-20.2%). The most significant increases were seen in the Balearic Islands (+70%), Rioja (+68.9%) and Murcia (+61.8%), while the least significant increases were seen in Cantabria (+1.7%) and Galicia (+7.8%).
