The most expensive mansion in the world has been sold

Date: 11.01.2016

The sale of the magnificent Chateau Louis XIV mansion in the suburbs of Paris for €275 million has become a new world price record. It is worth noting that this amount was paid not for a historical mansion, but for a recently built castle, made according to the patterns of the Louis XIV era. The buyer from the Middle East wished to remain anonymous.

The mansion is set on 56 acres (23 hectares), between Versailles and Marly-le-Roi. The house includes an aquarium, a cinema and a wine cellar, and the park features a fountain covered in gold leaf.

The previous price record belonged to a penthouse in London – the transaction amounted to $221 million, completed in 2011. Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov was unable to beat this record – at one time he planned to buy a mansion in the south of France for €390 million (the famous Villa Leopolda), but abandoned the deal, losing 10% of the transaction amount under the terms of the agreement.
